We heal in relationship, not on our own.
In many ways, it can feel like we are set up to struggle in life. There’s so much pressure on us to deal with things on our own, in isolation — to remove ourselves from others until we have figured out how to be presentable enough, acceptable enough, to come back into community.
Instead of trying to figure out how to be good enough by ourselves, what if we had contact with a wise and loving other who could remind us that we’ve always been good enough?
There’s nothing we need to do to become deserving enough to be here, in connection, exactly as we are.
As a therapist, my focus is on being present within a relational space that can be stabilizing and allow for new interpersonal experiences.
My hope is that these new relational experiences can help disconfirm distorted beliefs about self and the world - beliefs that were developed in response to past experiences with people that were harmful, confusing, or not quite right.
This allows room for a new, more accurate understanding of self to come into view, and for a surprisingly sturdy self-confidence to emerge.
